Ep. 15: What Men Want—What Women Want: John M. Townsend, Ph.D.

John M. Townsend, Ph.D.When the elites talk about men and women today, you would think the sexes are interchangeable. In the 21st century, equality has come to mean sameness.

There’s only one problem.

It isn’t true.

As human beings, we’ve inherited certain predispositions from our evolutionary past. Anyone who argues that we’re born with no predispositions whatsoever, and that men and women would act exactly the same if society didn’t teach them to act differently, is ignoring a mountain of evidence from the major scientific disciplines.

The idea that sex differences are socially constructed may be the politically correct view, but it is based on ideology and wishful thinking rather than on empirical evidence. Biological and cultural studies show–very clearly—that biology matters.

We will talk with John M. Townsend, Ph.D., an expert on the evolutionary roots of sex differences, about the vast differences between women and men and why understanding and accepting these differences is the key to a lasting relationship.

John M. Townsend, Ph.D., is Professor of Anthropology at Syracuse University. He has authored countless articles, as well as the book What Women Want—What Men Want (Oxford University Press), and has appeared on many national television and radio talk shows.
